The 2012 Inaugural Christmas Tree Festival has now finished but was a spectacular success. It provided a wonderful display of Christmas trees, decorated in the style and theme of any company, organisation or individual who requested to be a tree sponsor. It was not a competition, simply a great chance for sponsors to show their organisation or theme in an imaginative and festive way and to be part of a unique mixture of heritage, community expression, and fun. During the festival, the public was invited (for a small entrance fee) to wander through the forest of decorated trees, enjoy live music and refreshments and soak up the festive atmosphere. The event was jointly organised by the PCC and the St Edburg’s Foundation, and the funds raised will contribute to promoting the heritage of this ancient building. The Festival closed with a Songs of Praise style carol service on the Sunday evening.
The feedback from the Bicester community (about 500 adults and children visited over the three days, not including the large congregations at the two main Sunday services and the carol service) who came through our doors and were captivated by our “forest” of trees has given us the confidence to start discussions and planning for a repeat in 2013. We will be back bigger and better next year!
