Heritage Box

The next phase of the Reordering Project, which has been going on in St Edburg’s Church for the last few years, will be the provision of toilet and servery facilities at the back of the church. Part of this process will involve the removal of the ancient font to a more traditional central position. For the last few months of 2012 and beginning of 2013 we ran an interesting project; we plan to bury a box under the newly re-sited font in which messages to future generations will be left. The open days have now finished and there has been a tremendous response. We would like to thank the people of Bicester and everybody else who has supported this venture.

Update, Spring 2014 – the box has now been sealed in lead and is ready for burying under the font’s new location. Pictures of what the finished box looks like are shown below. Hopefully, the contents will be a useful insight into the life of St Edburg’s and the town of Bicester in the early 21st Century for our descendants.
